Only local residents and those staying in the town will be able to receive tickets to view the festival. Anyone else will not be permitted to attend.
Dosojin are the gods worshiped since ancient times for the prayer for healthy children and that act as the guardians of children. The Nozawa Onsen Dosojin Festival that worships the dosojin is a large fire festival for men who are the “unlucky” yakudoshi ages of 25 and 45 years old. The festival prays for peace, good match-making, healthy children, and the driving out of evil spirits. The Nozawa Onsen’s Dosojin Fire Festival is famous for its grand scale and is one of the three great fire festivals in Japan that has been designated as an important intangible cultural property of Japan.
