Nagaoka Festival Grand Fireworks Show - Niigata

The Nagaoka Festival Grand Fireworks Show was first held on August 1, 1945, as an event to pray for the souls of those lost in the Nagaoka air raids and for the restoration of Nagaoka. Today, August 1 is now the Memory of War Victims day, and August 2 and 3 are the Grand Fireworks Show days.
Guest seats line both banks of the Shinano River, the largest river in Japan, and many enormous fireworks light up the night sky, such as Nagaoka’s famous “Shô-Sanjakudama,” which burst into large flowers of 650 meters in diameter, and “Niagara,” “Komehyappyo hanabi shakutama 100 renpatsu,” and the “Phoenix carrying the Prayer’s for Restoration,” which boasts a scale unmatched by anywhere else in Japan.
