The twisted faces of hyottoko masks, okame women, and foxes dance to the jaunty rhythms of gongs and taiko drums. The festival prays for a rich harvest for the region and business prosperity, but it is the facetiousness and smidgen of the erotic in the dancing that one can’t help but laugh at.
