Hamamatsu Festival - Shizuoka

The Hamamatsu Festival of Hamamatsu City, with its colorful kites and goten yatai floats, is held every year May 3rd-5th.
During the day, over 170 residents’ associations participate in the festival to fly the “first kite” to celebrate the birth of children and pray for their healthy growth, and engage in “kite battles” and “string-cutting fights,” upon which each residents’ association puts their pride in the daytime.
The passion of the festival is carried on into the night with the beautiful pageantry of the turning of the floats.
