Following a dai seshoku memorial service (a memorial service where sutras, posthumous Buddhist names and legal names are read aloud) by the more than 100 role dormitory and Kumoosame crowd of Daihonzan Eiheiji Temple, about 6,000 lanterns are released into the Kuzuryu River. The scene which the band of light creates is sublime and magical.
