One of Japan’s three great riverside festivals. It is a majestic and brilliant riverside festival with a history dating back nearly 600 years. The festival is divided into the Yoi Matsuri at night, where five makiwara boats decorated with the chochin lanterns color the river, and the Asa Matsuri in the morning, where six danjiri boats decorated with life-sized Noh dolls during the night are rowed on floats to the sound of ancient music.
