Kanda Festival - Tokyo

The nationally-famous Kanda Matsuri, which began in the Edo period and was inspected by the Tokugawa shoguns, is considered one of Japan’s Big Three Festivals and Big Three Edo Festivals. Held once every two years, its spectacular parade features mikoshi and floats in the streets of the Kanda and Nihonbashi areas. Kanda Shrine was built in 730 in what is today the district of Otemachi. and was moved in 1616 to its current location to accommodate the expansion of Edo Castle.
