Nagasaki Lantern Festival - Nagasaki

Originally started as a Chinese New Year festival to celebrate the Chinese lunar new year, it has become the Lantern Festival, Nagasaki’s largest winter festival. From Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown, Minato Park, Central Park, Megane Bridge, and Hama-ichi and Kankodori shopping arcades, the center of Nagasaki is lit up with 15,000 thousand richly-colored lanterns (Chinese lanterns) and fantastically decorated with large works of art. Events steeped in Chinese culture, such as dragon dances, Chinese acrobatics, and Erhu performances are held at different venues throughout the city during the festival.
