The Tamba Sasayama Dekansho Festival is one of the most renown folk song festivals in western Japan, held every August around the ruins of Sasayama Castle in Tambasasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture.
At the festival, many people come together and dance in circles to the dekansho song, which is said to have originated in Tambasasayama and has been passed down since the Edo era.
Another must-see of this festival are the wooden yagura turrets, one of the few left in Japan, standing against the backdrop of a fabulous fireworks display.
