The Sakura Festival of Kakunodate - Akita

Kakunodate’s Bukeyashiki-dori Street and the wider samurai district is a designated Natural National Monument that is as pretty as a postcard, featuring weeping cherries planted more than 300 years ago and a line of Yoshino cherry trees stretching for about two kilometers along the embankment of the Hinokinaigawa River. Bukeyashiki-dori and the Hinokinaigawa River embankments are one of Japan’s top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Sites, and the river embankment is a nationally designated place of scenic beauty. The sights include the striking contrast of the stern black fences of the samurai houses and the weeping cherry blossoms, the tunnel of cherry blossoms and the magnificence of cherry blossoms at night.
