YOSAKOI SORAN FESTIVAL - Hokkaido

The Yosakoi Soran Festival, started in 1992, has its roots in the Yosakoi Festival of Kochi Prefecture, and is a blend of the Yosakoi Festival’s Naruko clappers and Hokkaido’s soran bushi folk songs.
Dancers dressed in colorful clothing and with naruko clappers in hand put on spectacular performances in Odori Park in Sapporo to the melody of Soran Bushi music. The festival has grown to see 280 teams of 28,000 people with around 2 million visitors on average each year. The festival is intended to go beyond the boundaries of regions and generations, and bring excitement and joy to both people and the region.
