Yoshida Fire Festival - Yamanashi

Three Strange Festivals of Japan Yoshida Fire Festival
A festival held every year on August 26th and 27th at Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine and Suwa Shrine to mark the end of the Mount Fuji climbing season.
On the afternoon of the 26th, a large mikoshi shrine and mikage mikoshi procession are lead through the parishioners town, and when night falls, over 70 giant taimatsu pine torches nearly three meters high, and smaller torches at the front of each home are lit, turning the town into a sea of fire.
When dusk approaches on the 27th, parishioners and spectators holding “Susukino Sacred Tree branches” walk after the mikoshi around the ground of the shrine in what can only be referred to as sublime.
