Narita Gion Festival - Chiba

A procession of mikoshi portable shrines and 10 dashi and yatai floats decorated by each neighborhood association that are pulled around, the festival takes over the town of Narita with roughly 450 thousand visitors each year. The highlights of the festival are the “so-odori” dance and “sobiki” parade, with the “so-odori” marking the start of the festival. Mikoshi portable shrines and all of the dashi and yatai floats line up in front of the Great Main Hall of Shinshoji Temple and dance to a musical accompaniment. The “sobiki” parade which takes place in the Nakamachi district near the gate is an event for the brave as all participants run up the steep slopes.
