Takayama Festival - Gifu

Takayama Festival is the collective name for the Sanno Festival in the spring and the Hachiman Festival in the fall that originated in the late 16th century to early 17th century. It has been handed down to the present day as a traditional event that retains the appearance of the Edo period even over the course of many changes.
Twelve exquisitely crafted festival yatai floats, called “Ugoku Yomeimon Gate,” show off their splendor in the spring festival while 11 are featured in the autumn festival. When darkness falls, each float is adorned with about 100 paper lanterns that light up the night with a beautiful glow.
It was registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in December this year.
