Yamagata Hanagasa Festival - Yamagata

The stirring tones of powerful cries and hanagasa-daiko drums. The parade is led by gorgeously decorated festival floats, behind which unfurl groups of dancers wearing beautiful costumes and carrying conical hats adorned with safflowers. It is one of Tohoku’s four big festivals. Over 10,000 dancers perform a dynamic and vibrant dance amid undulating waves of conical hats decorated with safflowers, the flower of Yamagata, creating a sea of blooms.
